Textro-Yarns®
Textro-yarns® combine conductive material with Lycra® fiber into a single yarn that can maintain its electronic functionality through all the normal textile processing steps and still give the look and feel of normal textiles when woven or knitted. Shown here are spools of Textro-yarns made with copper wire and silver-coated nylon.
Textro-Interconnects®
Textro-interconnects® are fabric cables embedded with electronic wiring, available with or without stretch capabilities. They use commercial conductors and standard connectors, and are both washable and sew able. They are available with as many as 6 conductors per inch, and in cable widths from 1/2 to 15 inches. They are suitable for a variety of twisting, stretching and vibrating applications.
Stretch and Recovery Properties of Textro-Yarns® and Textro-Interconnects®
Textro-yarns® contain a Lycra® fiber at the center, with one or more fine strands of conductive elements twisted around it. As the Lycra stretches to its limit, the conductors are pulled into a straight position. This enables the yarn to achieve maximum elasticity without breaking the conductive connection of the wiring. Different yarns within this product line offer variations in thickness, elasticity, and conductivity.
Textro-interconnectsTM can stretch and twist into small or oddly-shaped spaces. This product is available in varying degrees of stretch from 0–200 percent.
NuMetrex Heart Sensing Sports Bra®
The NuMetrex heart rate monitoring sports bra by Textronics features electronic sensing technology actually integrated right into the fabric. The sensors in the fabric pick up the wearer’s heartbeat and relay it to the WearLinkTM transmitter in the front of the bra. The transmitter captures the heart rate info and sends it to the heart rate monitoring watch, which displays it instantaneously.
